Ian McKellen is giving Lord of the Rings fans an extraordinary look off camera from the creation of the first movies. On his site, he is transferring his diary passages from the day he was given a role as Gandolf through the debuts of each film in the set of three, as substantiated by Entertainment Weekly.
“20 years prior, I showed up [in] New Zealand to start recording ‘The Lord of the Rings,'” McKellen tweeted. “I joined the cast on January 10, 2000. During that time, I kept a diary, which today would be known as a blog Perhaps you’ll appreciate finding out about those exciting occasions.”
The principal passage is dated August 14, 1999. The underlying sections are sorted out into “The Gray Book” for Gandalf the Gray and later into “The White Book” for Gandalf the White.
“While shooting The Lord of the Rings, I started recording my impressions in The Gray Book — named for Gandalf the Gray, the wizard who drives the Fellowship of The Ring in its battle against Sauron, the Lord of the Rings,” McKellen clarifies.
“This was probably the soonest blog, propelled before the term came into far reaching use. Initially posted like a blog, with the most up to date sections at top, in 2010 the passages on this page were modified into sequential request from 20 August 1999 to 14 December 2001. After 2001, I started an extra volume of passages called The White Book.”
