Charlize Theron is contributing $1 million to helping coronavirus and domestic abuse
Charlize Theron has promised $1 million (£812,300) for coronavirus relief efforts, with half the donation funding a nationwide anti-domestic violence campaign.
Charlize Theron is contributing $1 million to helping coronavirus and domestic abuse.Through her charitable foundation, the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project (CTAOP), the Monster actress is donating the amount to provide assistance to those in need during the coronavirus pandemic, which forced people into isolation to prevent COVID-19 spread.
“We are being told to shelter in the comfort of our homes during this unprecedented global crisis-but what if our homes are not safe? Home can be unsafe for the millions of women and children around the world who shelter with their abusers,”
Charlize shares a message that has been shared on social media.
“Which is why, in support of the global battle against domestic violence during the # covid19 crisis, @ctaop and I join hands with CARE and the Entertainment Industry Foundation in standing up to # TogetherForHer.” My team is contributing $1 million to COVID’s relief efforts, with $500,000 explicitly earmarked for our Together For Her movement to support women against domestic violence through their efforts.
‘Calling on supporters to follow her example and donate what they can’ she says, “Our rallying cry is this: please join us in showing women suffering domestic violence that they’re not alone-we’re with them, with them, with them, #TogetherForHer.”
Charlize is not the only activist who has recently joined them in emphasizing the need to support victims of domestic abuse during the coronavirus freeze-Rihanna.
